There are certain colors I always associate with certain places. Iowa will always be gray for me, even if Sioux City was lushly green in May, it is a state I associate with such boredom, it will forever be lackluster even in my (few) favorite memories. I think one reason for the gray memory is that three seasons a year seem to be gray — an overcast, northern Midwest pall of gray sky, with a weak, watery sun futilely trying to penetrate.
