LATELY

Lately I’ve been unable to tolerate the sound of wood on teeth,

The screechy scrape of fork against the plate.

I cannot tell the dream from waking, aching truth,

I lose you when I only lose myself.

Could you please hold me while letting me go free?

Lately I’ve been unable to do my best.

I want to live forever through my works,

Like giants on whose shoulders we all stand.

Let oceans overfill with teeming life,

Let rain fall in abundance where it needs.

Lately I’ve been unable to come clean,

My guilty conscience branding me a fake.

It’s not enough to say you want to heal,

It’s not enough to meditate and pray.

Desire manifests through love and grace,

Lately I’ve been unable to let go.
