My husband took this photo at a local microbrewery because he knows the importance of this now-defunct airline to my family.

Today is my anniversary, but not my husband’s. Today, August 10th, 45 years ago, my parents, my maternal grandparents, and I immigrated together to the United States from Minsk, Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic.

We flew out of Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Airport on Pan Am Airlines, and after 11 hours landed in John F. Kennedy Airport in New York. We arrived in the afternoon, where we were then forgotten about for some hours.
