Dear C.M. Barrett,

I, too, joined a writing group, once upon a time. I enjoyed it, & found it supremely helpful — the critique was on point, & the compliments were supportive.

It was only after the leader of the group (after hours) called the dream of being published by a publishing house of fellow group member “fairy tale” in a dismissive, laughing, derisive sort of way that I’ve stopped coming. Because that’s been my “fairy tale” as well forever, one I will never give up.

I am thinking of joining another group, but in the preliminary stage only. There is a very long period for me between thought & execution. Still, like Medium, I enjoy being part of the community, since writing itself is such a solitary thing.
