I am not a morning person. Never have been. My own (loving) mom used to call me a bitch in the mornings, when I was in high school, so great were her fights with me — personally, I don’t remember them, except when she physically dragged me out of bed a few times. A night owl, I am also caffeine-insensitive, & have Novocain insensitivity (I wonder if the two are related?). It didn’t get better me having children.
But I’ve always loved the very idea of mornings, & always wanted to become a morning person (like my lucky, lucky husband). The saying around the house is, don’t remind dad of anything at night & mom in the morning. Since we’re taking a Coursera wellness course on line, for the next 4 weeks we are focusing on one of our greatest weaknesses. For my husband it’s meditation. For me, it’s sleep.
Starting yesterday I have began going upstairs at 9:30, to get up at 7 am. It might not seem early for someone who gets up at 5, but it’s a big deal for me. Like, a BIG deal. Once I get used to that, after the initial four weeks, I am going to move the time to 9 pm & 6:30 am. Then another month of acclimation. Then 30 more minutes back. I don’t know if it’s feasible, honestly. But I will tell you, that I am going to do everything in my power to achieve it. Not try. Do. (The follower of Yoda for only the original three Star Wars movies.)
