As a Jewish immigrant from the Soviet Empire, whose parents brought her to the US to escape the casual, prevailing & standard anti-Semitism, I can swear to you, it’s not all in your mind. If we, you, I, each of us, do nothing in the corner grocery store, it shall become casual, prevailing & standard here, too. Because that’s how it starts — with little indignities we just put up with. And all decent people have to do is nothing. Complacency is the best friend of totalitarianism, prejudice, hatred, bigotry, etc.

Thank you for speaking out. Thank you for getting upset. This isn’t about doggoes. This is about humiliation. You did the right thing.
