Dear Jon,

That is a brilliant idea for a mystery, or even a series of mysteries!

I honestly wish I had any connections in the publishing industry. What also doesn’t help is living (almost) in the middle of this country, instead of either coast. New York or San Francisco are the publishing Meccas. I get that with social media there’s not even a need to live on the same continent, but you know, have lunch with your publisher, your agent, push your book by touring… whatever. For someone who professes not to have any romantic bones in her body, I seem to have developed an unrealistic picture of the publishing biz. It’s all pale pink roses & agents who’d take a bullet for you (in the fleshy part of their thigh).

Jon, you are such a tremendous writer. You deserve all the publishing & accolades & trucks full of money slowly backing up to your door to unload. But, as Clint Eastwood pointed out in The Unforgiven, “It ain’t got nothing to do with deserve.” I did send that article to all my friends who are readers — that’s all my friends. Keep writing & I’ll do my damnedest to make sure that anyone who knows me, reads you. That’s a promise.
