This is excellent!
As an aside, have you read “My Losing Season” by Pat Conroy? It was an autobiographical book about his time at West Point, specifically being on the basketball team.
First of all, anything he wrote, how his love of the language shone through his writing … & when he wrote about basketball, oh, man, decades later he’s describing play by play he’s never forgotten… One of my biggest regrets is that I never wrote to him telling him I loved his writing (I wrote to Robert B. Parker, before his death, thankfully!). But I digress. Whenever I read description of a basketball game, I can’t help but compare. You have very different styles, for sure, but you would definitely enjoy that Conroy book, although I can’t think how you won’t enjoy all Conroy books, as a reader, period!
