This goes out to everyone.
I woke up in a great mood today. This may be unusual for me, but not unheard of. I was awash in gratitude, thankful for everything and everyone in my life. I have decided not to wait and write about it.
Hooray for generous strangers! A couple of days ago I was waiting for my order at a Chinese restaurant, when a man walked in. He started explaining to the hostess that he ordered some food, $15 worth, but forgot his wallet. Overhearing him, another woman who was paying her bill at that time, immediately offered to comp his meal. He thanked her, but declined her offer. Then he laughed with embarrassment, and said that he is a regular here, that they know him and they’ll let him have the food because they know he’ll return with the money. But holy moly, that was heartwarming to witness.
Yay for people who not only pick up their own trash, but also what was there already. How sweet it is to share this planet with people who feed the homeless, volunteer their time and expertise in medicine, law and computers to help those who cannot help themselves.
And I want to give a big, loud shout out to all my fellow writers on Medium and everywhere. It is a brave thing writers do, by themselves, most days. Brave, hopeful, foolish, and for us, absolutely necessary. This is why I am including the inspirational quote that my friend Reverie gave to me. Do what I do — read it out loud, at least once a day, with confidence. May you never cease taking joy from writing.
