Irish Wish — my scathing review
Everyone seemed to want me to watch it. Number 1 on Netflix! So many reviews! It seemed harmless enough. I was in the mood to watch some lovely scenery, feeling completely mellow without the aid of marijuana. So, I sat down late on afternoon and started to watch Irish Wish, a movie starring Lindsay Lohan, Ed Speleers, Alexander Vlahos, Jane Seymour, Elizabeth Tan and Ayesha Curry, plus others.
About half way through the movie, I got out my computer. I thought I might as well write a blog about this as I watched, because I had thoughts and things I wanted to say, even if no one wanted to hear them. Just yelling them at my television screen or into the abyss wouldn’t make me feel better, I thought.
There’s a Russian joke. It goes like this: a small traveling circus comes to a village. There are animal acts, jugglers, clowns, the usual assortment of acrobats. To the side there’s a small tent, with a large line. A person comes through, and quickly comes out. They give an emphatic thumb up. The next one comes through, another hearty thumbs up, and so on. Seeing their enthusiasm, more line up. Once inside, as soon as they enter, they’re given a swift kick in the behind and unceremoniously pushed out. But, as they don’t want to be the only ones humiliated and duped, they grin and give a big thumbs up.
