Random thoughts
I don’t know why I like the orange color so much. I would certainly never wear orange — as a brunette with a purple streak in my hair, orange makes me look ghastly and underbaked. Yet I truly like looking at shades of orange, from pinkish orange to deeper terracotta to the blaze orange of the Denver Broncos uniform. The fact that I like a color one shade lighter than brown makes me feel boring. Doesn’t change my preference — but now I think I actually like shades of brown, too.
But orange is not my favorite color, that honor belongs to green, Kelly green, to be exact. But that’s my favorite color today. Tomorrow, it might become a shade of blue that takes this top spot. Who knows? But, I do know what will not be my favorite. One color I’m not particularly fond of is yellow — not light, not medium, and not dark mustard. Although there are shades of soft, buttery cream colors I do appreciate — like old, thick linen paper, these are more akin to white, and cream and ivory colors do tickle my fancy.
Gravity and the wind. Forces unseen but certainly felt. Wind is my second least favorite type of weather, right after hot humidity. Wind has a tendency to whisk my breath away from me but not give it back. If weather preference is hereditary, then I get this from my father. We both hate the wind, no matter what the season. We both agree that it is just irritating and unpleasant.
Humans are dualistic. We want to believe in logic, in cold and clear reason, but we still have our fight of flight lizard brain to contend with, and we are still creatures of strong emotions. Most of us are Kirks, not Spocks. And we need a bit of both on the bridge of our Starship Enterprise.
But we are also not at the mercies of our emotions, we can choose rational thought — we understand about how vaccines protect us, or how not confuse patriotism with wearing or not wearing masks (how did this basic act of protecting yourself and others ever become a political issue?? The mind boggles.). Medicine and faith could co-exist together, they can work in tandem without weakening each other. But when blind faith turns against medicine — well, madness lays this way. For those who don’t believe that there is a pandemic — don’t take anyone’s on the news word for it. Why don’t you call some hospitals, cemeteries & some undertakers? Do your own verification, this way you can talk about it with authority. Do it for several states — get your statistics right.
I’m making scarves for people this year, but since I am still getting over having COVID, plus I’m doing this for four people, it’s going to take longer than I’ve anticipated (what doesn’t? Am I right?). I should be done by next spring. Hopefully, sooner.
Ok, back to more random thoughts. I don’t care for cake much — but I love, love, love frosting. I’ll take the cream, and you can drink the coffee.
I’ve always liked the night, the dark. The night can protect, make you invisible, if you know the shadows. This makes me sound like a Batman-esque bad-ass, but in truth I like the night because I’m a coward. The night is just another place to hide, from enemies real or imagined.
I have mediated successfully once in my life. I’ve been chasing that dragon ever since, for about 30 years now, but not very hard. It’s not a life goal.
Merry Christmas to all for whom it matters, and to all a good night.
