In this, the time of chaos and oppression, of turmoil and motherfucking Trump who causes a lot of those things, (it’s my blog, and if you don’t like it, please, go write your own and leave me alone), there are things I can do to calm down and de-stress. One of the most important things I do for my mental health is watch and read cozy mysteries.

Cozy mysteries on TV and are the subject of another blog. Cozy mysteries are pretty much all I read now (and noir mysteries, as well, as they feed into the anger vein and also bring some relief). But cozy mysteries are such a huge comfort, that I’ve decided to devote several blogs to them.

First, let me define a cozy mystery according to me. It is exactly what it sounds like — a good read (or a TV show, see above) that makes you feel like you’re snuggled down into a warm, comfy comforter, with a hot cuppa tea, and a cookie (sorry, I’m still American) or a slice of pizza with all your favorite toppings, or the softest, warmest pair of socks on your feet, while you sit in your favorite chair or sofa and outside it’s either raining or snowing, and a cold cold wind is making the windows rattle a bit. There may be a glow from a candle or a crackle of a fire in the fireplace, or, a soft yellow light from the lamp next to you is illuminating the pages. A cozy mystery gives you warm, fuzzy feels. It’s not like falling in
